Ward 6 election results

The 3 existing councillors for Ward 6: Inverclyde South West have all kept their seats as the local election results for Inverclyde were announced in the last hour at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Greenock.
The 3 elected councillors were separated by just 9 votes, with Gerry Dorrian of Labour gaining the most votes with 768.
The results were as follows: Gerry Dorrian, Labour, 768 votes Innes Nelson, Scottish National Party, 766 Ciano Rebecchi, Liberal Democrat, 759
Unsuccessful candidates were: Colin Jackson, Scottish Labour Party, 415 votes John Crowther, Scottish National Party, 405 Duncan Simpson, Scottish Conservative and Unionist, 217 Peter Campbell, Independent, 62 votes
The overall picture in Inverclyde is as follows and shows the Liberal Democrats as the big losers in Inverclyde: Labour: 10 seats (up 1 from 2007) SNP: 6 seats (up 1 from 2007) Liberal Democrat: 2 seats (down 2 from 2007) Conservative: 1 seat (no change from 2007) Independent: 1 seat (no change from 2007)
* Please note that since the 2007 election, Lib-Dem councillor George White switched to the Liberal party and Labour councillor Charles McCallum became an independent. Neither of these councillors were re-elected in this election.
