What happened at Wemyss Bay Gala Weekend 2006? Friday evening 16th
June. Last year everyone entered into the spirit of the evening by dressing up for a Barn Dance on the Gala Weekend Friday night. This year we hope that you will do the same as we roll back the years to the 1970s with a fabulous 70s DJ. Do you remember the music? Who were your favourites? Perhaps, in the back of your wardrobe, you have even kept some of the clothes! Fancy dress is mandatory so dust them down and come along to, what is sure to be, a great night. There will be a prize, or prizes, for the best outfits. Tickets, which include a light supper, will be available from the box office but, as the night sold out very quickly last year, make sure that you get along in the first couple of days to make sure that you don’t miss out.
Saturday afternoon 17th June The events on Saturday start at 12 noon when this year's Gala Queen and Gala King, accompanied by their attendants, will officially open the Gala. All the stalls will be run by local organisations or businesses and will include the Brownies, Lending Library, PTA, Mums and Tots, Woodland Association, Bible Club / Youth Group, AFD and Youth Club. Once again the youth clubs will be running the tuck shop and the burger stall – last year all the burgers were sold by 1.30pm so, although Liz has ordered even more for this year, you will still have to be quick. Each year, the Community Association has to gamble on the success of the Gala. Even if there is a poor turnout the marquees, bands, rides, beer etc. still have to be paid for. Over the years there have been many generous sponsors who help fund specific items or donate prizes to the raffles. Sponsors are still required for this year's event – would your business be prepared to help or can you provide a raffle prize? Contact Kirsty on 520738. Attractions and highlights of the day to include:
This year once again, the beer-tent will be providing a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Please note, inside the marquee is strictly a no-smoking area.
Saturday evening 18th
June For the first time this year, we have decided to ticket the Saturday Karaoke night. For health and safety reasons, and to comply with the conditions of our licence, we have to restrict numbers in the marquee. Despite this we are sure that everyone will have a great time. Last year it was so popular that, once again, we will be running our soup kitchen for those of you who get peckish during the course of the evening. Tickets for the evening will be available from the box office on a first come first served basis. Sorry, but you cannot reserve tickets for either night as it is not fair on other people.
Sunday 18th June Ardgowan Football Development host their Annual Open Day on Sunday 18th June at the Community Centre and Playing Field from 11.15am – 3.00pm. There will be displays of training sessions and games. Ardgowan Thistle Football Club will take on local guest teams. There will also be the annual presentation of certificates and trophies. This is a must for all parents, families and friends of youngsters attending AFD. Visit the Ardgowan Football Development web site. TICKET DETAILS - BOX OFFICE The Box Office for tickets for both Friday and Saturday night events will be open at the Community Centre as follows: Thursday 1st June 6pm – 8pm Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. In order to be fair to everyone, you will not be able to reserve tickets. Prices are as follows: Friday night dance (inc. buffet):
