Gala Weekend

The Gala Weekend was a great success! Following the rain
that caused last year's Gala Day to be wet and muddy, this year we
had great weather with one of the best days of the year so far. On
Friday night there was a ceilidh, on Saturday there was the usual
Gala Day fun and events, then on Sunday Ardgowan Football Development
ran a football Gala Day.
See below for details of some of the events that were
going on.
Friday
13th June
Family
Ceilidh - 7.30pm to 11.30pm
- Ceilidh included
buffet, live music and licensed bar.
- Music provided
by "The Midgies" (visit
their web site).
Saturday
14th June
Gala
Extravaganza from 12noon.
- Old crocks
versus Young guns from 12noon till 1pm. In a
hard fought contest, the final score was a 3-3 draw.
- Various displays from
Karate Group, Highland Dancing, Drama Group and Claire
Colvin's School of Dance.
- Children's
entertainment from Uncle Billy.
An hour of entertainment for the
younger children with a visit from the ever popular Uncle
Billy.
- Face painting.
- A variety of
rides
Such as laserquest, titans challenge, rainbow chambers,
bouncy castle, tea-cups and a giant inflatable slide
(a token system was in operation for the rides).
- Gala Queen
The Gala Day would not be complete of course without
the crowning of the Gala Queen. The Gala Queen arrived
in style in a Rolls Royce courtesy of McDonald Wedding
Cars,
who kindly offered to supply the car free of charge.
- Teas and refreshments were
available in the community centre.
- Bottle stall.
- Barbecue courtesy
of Liz Canning and team.
- Beat the keeper.
- Lots more!
There was a licensed
bar open in the marquee from 12.00pm until approximately
10pm with a DJ comparing throughout the day and night.
From 7.00pm until
9.30pm there was a disco for the under 12's.
Sunday
15th June
Football
tournament organised by Ardgowan FD
1pm-6pm
Program was as follows:
- The 5 to 8 year olds showing their football
skills to their parents from 1:15 to 2:30pm.
- The Day to open with a parade of all the kids who
have taken part over the last year.
- Medals and certificates to be awarded to all.
- Beer tent and a football tournament
for the older 9 to 12 year olds of Ardgowan.
